Bartlett business helps women transition out of homelessness

A Bartlett-based professional organizer has partnered with Women in Need Growing Stronger to offer time and paper management workshops to help women who are making the transition out of homelessness.

WINGS, an area social service agency, provides a range of services to assist women and their children who are homeless, often as a result of domestic violence.

Juli Brown, owner of In Balance Organizing Services in Bartlett, has teamed up with fellow professional organizer Jane Carroo of Palatine, to provide workshops.

Brown and Carroo are members of the Quantum Leap Task Force, funded by the National Association of Professional Organizers. As members of the task force, they donate their services to provide time, paper and financial management workshops to agencies which serve people who are on welfare or at risk of being on welfare. The workshops give participants hands-on tools they can apply to their lives today to give them a better chance of reaching their goals.

"Managing time is difficult for many of us, but for our women who have additional challenges and obstacles, learning or relearning good ways to manage time is an exceptionally important tool," said Beth Gardham, director of Community Resources at WINGS.

"Knowing how to effectively manage time, keep papers and finances organized can make a big difference in how successful we all are at reaching our goals," Brown added.

Brown and Carroo said they are both committed to giving back to the community and are excited to be able to work with the staff and clients at WINGS.
